For those of you wondering what Hugh Laurie has planned in his post-House career, wonder no further. The actor is currently in talks to play the lead antagonist in Jose Padilha’s new RoboCop film. The role is that of OmniCorp’s CEO which is all we know at this time. The idea that this is in fact a villain stems from a similar role in the original RoboCop played by Ronny Cox.
This news joins a flurry of reports over the past few weeks that also saw Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson climbing aboard the James Vanderbilt-scripted project. Those two on-screen veterans have been cast as the cyborg’s inventor and a media mogul respectively with not much else being said about either role. Also on board is Sucker Punch actress Abbie Cornish who will be filling the shoes of RoboCop’s wife.
In terms of plot details, those are non-existent at this time, but it was recently revealed that RoboCop (Joel Kinnaman) will have some sort of visor that is built with the intent of showing more of his face than the original costume. Hopefully that is enough information to tide fans over until the more information comes to light. Shooting is expected to begin in September with a release date target of August 2013.
